| The
path to realization is treacherous and full of disciplines and hardships.
Treacherous, because it is so very easy to fall into the trap of "Icha"
and desires. The single minded purpose to attain Consciousness, lasting
happiness and fulfillment needs the help of the Guru. One is waylaid with
the pursuit of knowledge in regard to the scriptures. Nagraj was dissatisfied.
The metaphysical pursuits were not bringing him closer to enlightenment. It was the ultimate experience that he was seeking, the maze of words and reasoning was taking him away from the path. The writings no doubt teaching him the Path but, he was no where near the Truth. And yet, inspite of his austerities there was no Guru. By the age of eleven his search for the Truth had intensified to an extent that he practised great austerities. Guru's find you specially if you are young but when the fervor is intense. From Benaras with a group of ascetics he walked to Sri Lanka to the Katirgama temple in the south of Lanka.Katirgama temple has vibrations that have come down through the centuries and is a revered place of the Lord Murugan (Shiva). Katirgama stands as an example of religious harmony, expressing the siddhas universal teaching of "unity in diversity". Gautama Buddha, eight hundred years earlier, made a similar pilgrimage to the shrine of Murugan at Katirgama. |
